Proverbs 30:5 Proverbs 30:5 "Every word of God is pure (tested and refined); He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him."
Where would Captain Kirk be without his shields? In the heat of battle with the Klingons, or the Romulans, the order would be given, "Shields up Mr. Sulu."
The Enterprise had special shields which gave them greater protection against enemy fire. However, in the early episodes it seems to me that the Klingons had "cloaking" shields that often gave them the edge over the mighty Enterprise.
As I was meditating on the scripture; "He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him." instead of my usual Biblical-Roman shield type picture; a hand held piece of the "full armor", my imagination flew to the whole Star Trek shield concept.
WOW, those shields were really big! Yet a zillion times greater is our shield of faith that not only quenches the fiery explosive devises of the wicked one, but also cloaks us right off his radar. We don't merely fly "under the radar"; we get to fly over it because we are seated together with Jesus in heavenly places. Ephesians 2:6 "And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus"
However, there is a conditional clause in the contract: "to those who put their trust in Him", He(the word made flesh) is a shield. As our trust grows so shall we see and experience even more of the shielding power of our God and His Word against the galactic type spiritual, emotional, and physical wars and assaults on our spirit, our mind, and our body. The list of protection possibilities is as endless as the greatness of the power of His love for us!
Glory to God! Maybe I'll create a TV series called God Trek and we'll fly into the real final frontier - living in a time and place where trusting in the Lord causes all our courses to be set on Victory at all times! Want to tune in? Want to become part of the crew? Read the "Book"! It is your training manual and the fuel you'll need for the great adventures that are coming soon to your local "theater".
Let's pray...
Father, please forgive me for all the times I have placed my trust in myself or in the systems of the world. Forgive me for thinking at times that it has to be stupid to trust you for EVERYTHING. Forgive me for holding up cardboard shields and fake lasers against the enemy instead of trusting you! Today I place all my trust in you and I thank you for shielding me not only from fiery darts but from all the wicked plans of my enemy. For the sake of your name, Jesus, and for your glory I pray. Engage!
