Put on the helmet of the happy hope of your salvation! In Ephesians 6:1-18, Paul tells believers to put on the full armor of God. In our society it is hard to picture most of those armor pieces. You know, swords and shields aren't used much any more. However, we can connect to helmets if we think about gear worn by football players, skate boarders, bikers, etc.

All these helmets are worn for one reason, to protect the bones of the head so the brain doesn't get injured. As we know, a damaged brain effects the whole body. The physical and the spiritual are connected.

It is vital for you to put on the helmet of hope each day, without which your mind will be damaged by the many blows of negative words and thoughts. At times we are all "run over" and we "hit walls" of apparent defeat and despair. There are just days when nothing seems to go right. But like the ice hockey player, if we start the game with our helmet on, there will be less likelihood of permanent brain (soul) damage when we wear the equipment we have been given!

Those of you who are parents have heard yourself many times tell your children, "wear your helmet if you are going to ride your bike today!" Hear Father God's voice to you, His child, "Wear your helmet of hope today. Don't leave home without it." Unlike the commercial on TV, it is not so much about "what is in your wallet" as it is about what is on your head!

So, put on the armor of God; His faith, and His love will protect you. But most of all, buckle on that helmet of the happy hope of your salvation. Purpose to keep hopelessness powerless to damage you even if you fall off your bike today.

Let's Pray: Father, thank You for the helmet of hope that you have given me to wear. I receive it and wear it today. I trust in you and embrace your love for me. I choose to walk in hope again today! In Jesus' name. Amen
