This is love

I John 4:9-10 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This then is love; not that we loved God, but that he love us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

What kind of a father would give up his only Son so that others could live?

Let me tell you a brief account of a story. One day a father, his son, and his son's friend were out on a boat. A sudden storm arose capsizing the boat. The situation was desperate and hopeless at the same time. A rescue line could be tossed out to only one of the boys. With agony of heart the man threw it to the son's friend and watched as his own son descended to a watery grave.

Years later an old man stood in pulpit telling this story in a church. Two teenagers approached him later and told him they did not believe his story. Somberly, the old man recounted the rest of the story. "You see, I am the son's friend that was rescued that day. My friend's dad knew his son had a real relationship with Jesus and would go to heaven. I, on the other hand, was a terrible sinner." The boys could feel the truth. A loving father sacrificed his son so that this man, now a preacher of many years, could live, get saved, and impact their lives this day.

Take not the gift of salvation lightly. A great price was paid! Unselfish love gave the best He had: His only Son, who died in your place! Love Sent His Son to the grave.

Let's pray: Thank you Father for loving me and for saving me. Thank you Jesus, for the great price you paid for me to be able to live. Help me to be one who truly lives my life to tell others of your great love. In Jesus' name, amen.
